YORKTOWN, N.Y. – Deputy comptroller Patricia Caporale was officially promoted Tuesday and sworn into her new position as Yorktown comptroller.

The position has been vacant since previous comptroller Joan Goldberg and the town agreed to part ways . Supervisor Michael Grace praised Caporale for taking on extra work and making the comptroller's office run more efficiently.

Caporale is one of six employees in the comptroller's office, which had seven employees with Goldberg. Despite the promotion from within, the town will not hire another employee to the office.

"As everybody knows, we went through a change in the comptroller’s office this year, and at one point in time actually reached outside to bring somebody in to help, thinking that Pat would need it," Grace said. "Pat proved us wrong."

Caporale’s title was made official Tuesday, but she has acted in a full-time comptroller capacity since the middle of the year, and was instrumental in helping the town board put together its 2013 budget.

"You went through the budget storm, the Sandy storm, and then the budget storm, and you carried it all very well," Grace said. "I can tell you, for me in particular, you’ve blown a big breath of very fresh air into the comptroller’s office. I find you an absolute pleasure to work with, and I think the Town of Yorktown should be very proud of you and all the work that you’ve done. It’s a great pleasure to be able to promote from within, and it’s very well deserved."

Caporale will earn a salary of $92,750. She was sworn in by Town Clerk Alice Roker and presented a bouquet of flowers from her husband and daughter.

"Thank you for the opportunity," Caporale said. "I look forward to working with all of you, my colleagues, with all the town employees to make the finance office even more efficient than it is now for a long, long time to come."
