Yorktown Receives Grant For Little League Fields

YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. – Yorktown's Little League ball fields will receive much-needed face-lifts thanks to a $150,000 capital grant presented to the Town Board Tuesday night.

Some of the projects on the town's agenda include renovation of the 90-foot baseball field on Route 202 and resurfacing of the in-line skating rink in Shrub Oak Park.

“It’s really going to be a tremendous help,” said Councilman Terrence Murphy. “We’re going to do great things with it and keep the kids in safe playing fields and in-line skating, and stuff like that.”

State Sen. Greg Ball (R, C-Patterson) presented a ceremonial giant check to officials and Little Leaguers from Yorktown Parks and Recreation, the Yorktown Athletic Club and the Shrub Oak Athletic Club.

“I’m a limited government guy, but I know that we pay the highest taxes in the galaxy,” Ball said. “And I believe it’s my job to bring as much of those dollars back home as possible. There’s a lot more good news on the way. I know [Councilman] Nick [Bianco] is waiting on the little check.”

Ball said the grant stems from a three-way agreement between the governor, Senate and Assembly and cannot be taken back or vetoed.

Town Board members also said they have been working with Ball on securing funds for senior services at the Yorktown Community & Cultural Center and for a statue at Downing Park commemorating the Battle of Pines Bridge.
