SHRUB OAK, N.Y. – Dozens of residents gathered Tuesday evening at the 9/11 memorial in Shrub Oak to honor the five members of the Yorktown community who died in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center.
“We are here today to memorialize a day that has defined our present day,” said Supervisor Michael Grace. “And in particular, those members of our Yorktown family who were so innocently slaughtered by those who aim to destroy us as a country of free people.”
Those memorialized in Tuesday’s ceremony included:
Patrick William Danahy, 35, Yorktown Heights. Danahy was a vice president at Fiduciary Trust and is survived by his wife, Mary, and three daughters.
Simon M. Dedvukaj, 26, Mohegan Lake. Dedvukaj was a maintenance foreman at the north tower and is survived by his wife, Elizabeth.
Alan Friedlander, 52, Croton Heights. Friedlander was senior vice president at Aon insurance company and is survived by his wife, Helen, and his two children.
Paul Fiori, 31, Yorktown Heights. Fiori worked at Cantor Fitzgerald and is survived by his wife, Lynda, and his two children.
Barry McKeon, 47, Yorktown Heights. McKeon was a vice president at Fiduciary Trust and is survived by his wife, Ginnie, and his four children.
“We pray for all of them,” Grace said. “We pray for all of those left behind to find peace. We pray we all will live lives worthy of their sacrifice, honoring them forever in our words and deeds. May God bless them, may God bless us, may God bless our Yorktown community, and may God bless our great country.”
Grace also revealed a new 9/11 banner that will hang near the memorial on East Main Street. The banner was donated by Yorktown artist Hank Gallucci.
