Yorktown Supervisor-Elect Grace Appoints Executive Secretary

YORKTOWN, N.Y.—A familiar face at Supervisor-elect Michael Grace’s campaign and election events has been named as his executive secretary.

Mary Capoccia, a 17-year-resident of Yorktown, will fill the position when Grace takes office on January 1.

“I’ve known Mary long enough and well enough to have total confidence and trust in her administrative skills,” Grace said. “Plus she brings to Town Hall an enthusiastic attitude that is positively professional and personable. She is the ideal choice to help me stay focused on the job at hand. We have a lot of hard, productive work ahead of us to properly nurture Yorktown with participatory government and ‘smart growth,’ to borrow a phrase from one of our newest citizen groups.”

While she has never served in the capacity as executive secretary for supervisor, Capoccia isn’t new to working with Yorktown supervisors, as she has worked as the legal secretary for Albert Capellini. Capoccia was also a broker for Hanover Hudson Realty and previously served for 12 years as executive secretary to a division president at McGraw-Hill in Manhattan.

Capoccia said it would be bittersweet to leave her place working for Capellini, but said she was excited to begin her work with Grace.

“I’m very excited to be starting with Mike, who I see not only making changes but bringing Yorktown back to greatness,” she said.

Capoccia has two sons, Christopher and Nicholas, who have worked as Yorktown volunteer firefighters, the latter also a charter member of Yorktown Heights Engine Co. No 1’s Junior Corps.

Capoccia said she was poised to handle the challenges and opportunities with Grace’s coming administration.

“I don't think it's any more stressful than what I do," she said. "The Town Hall staff in place is highly competent. Michael has been meeting with all the department heads since he won election. I know they will be very helpful.”
