Alfred grew up in Pelham and graduated from Pelham Memorial High School in 1971. After high school, he attended Utica College of Syracuse University and graduated with a BS in construction management. While in college he worked at the House of the Good Shepherd in Utica with troubled teens.
After graduation, he returned home to Pelham where he married Carol Elizabeth Day on May 26, 1979. The couple moved to New Rochelle, where they started their family. Alfred worked for numerous construction firms based out of New York, including Circle Industries, Herbert Construction and Avalon Bay Communities Inc. where he retired as Vice President of Construction in 2011. Brockunier was described as being well known for his vast knowledge of the industry, unwavering principles, and uncompromised ethics.
Alfred and Carol moved to Yorktown Heights where he built their family home and raised their three children. They were happily married for 38 years. After retirement, Alfred and Carol moved to Connecticut.
Family was of the utmost importance to Brockunier. He created a loving home in the Adirondacks and was known for his generosity, compassion for others, and desire to educate and share his wealth of knowledge.
Brockunier was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Sharon Gail McCurdy and brother Gregory Brian Brockunier.
Alfred is survived by his wife Carol, daughter Jessica Day Brockunier (Pittman), son-in-law Michael Brian Pittman, daughter Kaitlyn Kirk Brockunier, son Brian James Brockunier, his brothers Dr. James K. Brockunier and Dr. Craig K. Brockunier, and sister Susan K. Hertz, along with many loving nieces and nephews, other relatives and loyal dog and companion, Cody.
A “Celebration of Life” will be held at the family home in Bethel.
