Dr. Arthur Goldhamer, HS Biology Teacher In Yorktown

YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- Dr. Arthur Goldhamer passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 24, at the Veterans Memorial Home, Menlo Park, New Jersey. He was 95 years old. 

Goldhamer was born at 98 Delancy St. in Manhattan and attended DeWitt High School in the Bronx. He interrupted his college education to serve in the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving stateside and in Normandy with the 808 Chemical Warfare Division. He returned after five years as a 1st lieutenant to complete his bachelor of science degree in biology at New York University. After spending 10 years as an owner of a curtain manufacturing business, he went back to school and became a high school biology teacher in the Yorktown School District in Westchester County. 

Goldhamer earned his post-graduate degrees at Central Michigan University. He loved teaching and he loved Yorktown. He spent several years as a curriculum coordinator for New York State and later became a lead instructor for BOCES, traveling worldwide to conduct science teaching workshops. He also taught at Long Island University. At the VA home, he shared wartime stories with fellow vets. 

Goldhamer is survived by his daughter, Ellen Bollinger; son, Bob; and four grandchildren.
