Ernest Scarnati, 92, Yorktown Heights WWII Veteran

YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. – Ernest P. Scarnati of Yorktown Heights died Monday, Oct. 29, at Hudson Valley Hospital in Cortlandt Manor. He was 92.

He was born June 19, 1920, in New York City to Ernest and Mary Chirsa Scarnati. Raised and educated in Bronx, N.Y., Scarnati graduated from Evander Childs High School. He served in the Army from 1943 to 1946 as a technician fifth grade and was stationed in Germany, France and Switzerland.

Scarnati worked as a mechanic at Domino Sugar in Long Island for several years. He then worked at Refined Syrups and Sugars in Yonkers, where he held various positions including mechanic, mechanical foreman, mechanical coordinator and head of safety and security.

He enjoyed all sports and was an avid New York Yankees and New York Giants fan. On Feb. 22, 1944, he married Ann Vitale at Immaculate Conception Church in the Bronx.

Scarnati is survived by his wife; a daughter, Carol Ann (Walter) Rizzi, of Ossining; three sons, Dr. Ernest (Donna) Scarnati, of Bethany, Conn., Michael (Mary Ann) Scarnati, of Yonkers, and Anthony (Carol Ann) Scarnati, of Montrose; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation, funeral services and burial are all private. Whalen and Ball Funeral Home in Yonkers is handling arrangements.
