Esperanza Wood, 90, Of Yorktown Heights, WWII Army Veteran

YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. - Esperanza Wood of Yorktown Heights died June 9. She was 90.

Wood was born Aug. 30, 1922, to Angel and Petronila (nee Genovese) Gonzalez in Puerto Rico. She served in the U.S. Army during World War II. She worked for Frank B. Hall Insurance Co. in New York City.

Wood is survived by her daughters, Natalie Longo of North Salem and Jeanette (Mark) Mulvaney of Centennial, Colo.; brothers, Jose and Eddie; sisters, Lourdes, Romona, Mercedes and Edith; and four grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Frederick Wood; and sisters, Sally and Dora.

Calling hours are Wednesday, June 12 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Hawthorne Funeral Home . A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12 p.m. Thursday, June 13 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne. Interment to follow.
