Frances J. (Basilotta), 97, Lived In Yorktown Heights

YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. -- Frances J. (Basilotta) Pontorno, 97, of Yorktown Heights, died on Aug. 26.

 Pontorno was born in the Bronx and was the daughter of the late John and Frances (Di Silvestro) Basilotta. Raised in the Bronx, Pontoro graduated from Roosevelt High School. She worked at Bloomingdale's Department Store and at Phillip Jones Shirt Company, where she met her future husband, Luke. They were married Nov. 3, 1940 at Our Lady of Victory Church, Bronx. 

Frances and Luke remained in the Bronx and raised their four children there before relocating to Yorktown Heights. Frances celebrated 56 years of marriage with Luke before his death in 1996. 

Pontorno was a member of St. Patrick's Church, Yorktown Heights and the National Alliance on Mental Health. 

She was predeceased by her husband, Luke T. Pontorno, daughter, Phyllis Pontorno, brothers Louis and Baldwin Basilotta, and sisters Providence Castellano and Frances Holmes. 

Pontorno is survived by three children, Joan Heaton and husband, Andrew, of Groveland, Mass.; Francesca Contino of Garrison, N.Y.; and Paul Pontorno and wife, Angela, of Carmel, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. 

The family is grateful for the loving care our mother received during her final years by the staff at Skyview Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Croton. 

Calling hours are Sunday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Clark Funeral Home, 2104 Saw Mill River Road, Yorktown Heights, NY 10598. The Mass of Christian Burial is Monday, 10 a.m., at New St. Patrick's Church, 137 Moseman Road, Yorktown Heights. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne.
