John Karagozian, 93, Of Yorktown Heights

YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N/Y. -- John Karagozian, of Yorktown Heights, passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2016, at the age of 93 of complications from pneumonia at Phelps Memorial Hospital in Sleepy Hollow.

He was born Sept. 22, 1922, in the Bronx, the son of the late Hripsime and Nerses Karagozian. 

Until recently, Karagozian was an active member of the community, almost never missing a fire call to volunteer for the Yorktown Fire Company in the capacity of Fire Police. 

He, along with his brother Harry, who recently predeceased him, operated several businesses on the 12-acre family homestead. They raised chickens and turkeys, ran a fertilizer business and were best known for their Yorktown Paper Products company, delivering paper products regularly to many local businesses. 

Karagozian was a talented musician and played in the Peekskill Orchestra for many years. He also was an avid gardener, producing not only vegetables for friends, family and neighbors, but taking pride in growing beautiful flowers, as well. 

He is survived by his sister, Rose Timourian; niece, Adrienne Minassian and her husband Serge; nephew, James Timourian; nephew Gregory Timourian and his wife Rita; and niece, Margaret Matero and her husband Jim. He also was the great-uncle to Yvonne and her husband Paul Fereshetian, Corinne and her husband Steven Kachigian, Serge and his wife Tanya Minassian, Ian Timourian and Mara Timourian. He also is survived by his great-great-nephew and great-great-nieces, Damon, Cerise, Talene, Jasmine, Maxine, Raquel, Arianna, Sophia and the newest addition, Madeline.
