Margaret 'Peggy' Murphy, 83, Yorktown Heights Resident

YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- Longtime Yorktown Heights resident Margaret "Peggy" Murphy died Sunday, Jan. 3. She was 83.

Murphy moved to Yorktown Heights' "Sparkle Lake" in 1933 with her parents. She loved the lake, and spent many hours there as a child, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved to travel in the old converted Reo school bus, discover new things and have fun.

She ran the "Tea Room" at Sparkle Lake in the 1960s and worked with "Thrifty Me" in the 1970s. Murphy was active with the newly formed Yorktown Nursery School and later worked for Board of Cooperative Educational Services.

Murphy is survived by her high school sweetheart and husband of 65 years, Bill "Billy" Murphy, of Yorktown; children Wayne Murphy, Debbie Houghton, Randy Murphy, Wendy Murphy and Greg Murphy; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours are from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, at Clark Funeral Home, 2104 Saw Mill River Road, Yorktown Heights. No funeral is scheduled, and interment will be private.
