Michael Rieger, Of Mohegan Lake, U.S. Army Veteran

HARPERSFIELD, N.Y. – Michael Henry Rieger, of Mohegan Lake, died on Wednesday, March 11, 2015, in Harpersfield. He was 58.

He was born on Aug. 26, 1956, in Tarrytown, to William H. and Gloria Metz Rieger. He was a self-employed landscaper in Westchester and Putnam counties who loved the great outdoors, whether he was hiking in the mountains or following abandoned railroad lines while searching for remnants of their existence. His real passion was riding his motorcycles. He also lovingly restored antique motorcycles and autos. Rieger was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving in Germany from 1979 to 1980.

He is survived by his loving sister, Lauren Hoffman, and her husband, Joseph; four nieces; eight grandnieces; and two grandnephews.

Reposing, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, will be at Auchmoody Funeral Home, 900 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Catskill Area Hospice, 1 Birchwood Drive, Oneonta, N.Y.
