Philpstown's Gordon Stewart, 75, Former Jimmy Carter Speechwriter

PHILIPSTOWN, N.Y. -- Gordon Stewart, the publisher and founder of Philipstown.info and its weekly print edition The Paper, died Thursday morning, it was announced on Philipstown.info. He was 75.

A Chicago native, Stewart went on to serve as chief deputy speech writer in the administration of President Jimmy Carter. He went on to serve as a director of the New York Urban Coalition, as vice president of the American Stock Exchange from 1982-89 and as executive vice president of the Insurance Information Institute.

He founded the Philipstown.info in 2010 shortly before starting another venture to increase awareness of the social contract between citizens and U.S. government and business known as The Next Deal.

Stewart is survived by his wife of 19 years, Zanne, and their daughter, Katarina.
