Shirley Gulitz, 84, Former Yorktown Resident

YORKTOWN, N.Y. – Shirley Gulitz, a former longtime Yorktown resident, died Monday, July 9. She was 84.

Gulitz and her husband, Lou, were founding members of the Yorktown Ambulance Corps. While living in Yorktown from 1958 until moving to Florida in 1989, she provided baby-sitting and child care services to many Yorktown residents at little to no cost. This was especially true for many Yorktown teachers.

She was born Dec. 2, 1927. She was predeceased by her husband in 1999. She is survived by three children, Lester (Zita) Gulitz, Fred (Lynne) Gulitz and Ellen (Larry) Kahn; eight grandchildren, Kelly Gulitz, Shannon (Michael) Bonenfant, Michael (Stacy) Peterson, Kyle Gulitz, Joelle (Jason) Diesman, Marc Gulitz, Brian (Alicia) Peterson and Jennifer Gulitz; and five great-grandchildren, Owen Peterson, Michael, Sawyer and Nathan Bonenfant, and Courtney Diesman.

In the days before her death, Gulitz's last wish was to come back to Yorktown, the place she called home, where she died peacefully.
