Born in New York City to Nellie and Willard F. Greenwald., Denzer attended Abbott Academy and Wheaton College, before she began her career as a fashion model at Saks Fifth Ave, worked for Diners Club, and later for Bergdorf Goodman.
In 1979, she and a customer launched Denzer Moran, a women's clothing store in Mamaroneck, and one year later opened Mary Jane Denzer Ltd., an internationally acclaimed destination for luxury, couture and designer apparel shopping in White Plains.
In 2014, after 20 years at the corner of Mamaroneck and Maple avenues, Denzer fulfilled her dream of opening a shop in Renaissance Square, adjacent to the Ritz- Carlton in Westchester.
She was a businesswoman and a fashion icon, one who strove for perfection, made friends around the world, and gave many important new designers their start.
Denzer was predeceased by her husband, Alan R. Denzer and her brother, Willard F. Greenwald Jr.;
She is survived by her children Cathryn, Peter, Thomas, Holly, and stepchildren Alan Jr., Diane and Richard and grandchildren, Avery, Haley, Oliver, Noah, Linus, Nina, Tyler and Logan.
Her philanthropic interests included Channel 13, National Hemophilia Foundation, Pediatric Cancer Foundation, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the American Heart Association and White Plains Hospital.
The interment will be private. A reception will be scheduled at a later date. Donations in her memory may be sent to White Plains Hospital.
