To the editor:

As a retired Assistant District Attorney and longtime Yorktown resident, I have a unique perspective on the forthcoming election for Yorktown Town Justice.

Before retiring from the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office, I was fortunate to supervise and mentor many bright, hard-working young assistant district attorneys. One of those was Gary Raniolo. Thirty years later, I now have the privilege of representing clients in Yorktown Justice Court, where I am witnessing the maturation of a well-seasoned, knowledgeable and fair judge, who treats litigants and staff with a courtesy and reasonableness that is exemplary.

In evaluating a candidate for Yorktown Town Justice, I believe the central questions for my fellow voters are these: Is he honorable? Is he qualified? Is he fair?

I have known Judge Raniolo to be a man of the highest integrity, both on the bench and in his extensive experience in public and private service. His word is an unshakable bond. With more than 32 years of legal experience, both as an assistant district attorney and in private practice, Judge Raniolo has dealt with the specific areas of law that are relevant to the Yorktown local court.

In my experience, and in the opinions of other attorneys I respect, Judge Raniolo has an outstanding reputation not only for fairness, but for the unique quality of “judicial temperament.” Consistently, Judge Raniolo’s goal has been to administer justice in a fair and even-handed manner.

Without question, I will be casting my vote for Judge Gary Raniolo on Nov. 3. Judge Raniolo’s significant investment of personal time and effort, both in court and in support of programs and causes that make a difference in our community. I, therefore, encourage my fellow Yorktown residents to re-elect Judge Raniolo.
