A man accused of using a Northern Westchester resident's ID to steal $2,500 has been arrested and is now behind bars, Pound Ridge Police Chief Dave Ryan announced Thursday.

After a lengthy investigation, Pound Ridge Police arrested the Manhattan man on charges of identity theft in the first degree, a Class D felony.

Police received a complaint in July 2017 from a resident who was the identity-theft victim.

Pound Ridge Police Detective Stephen Mulcahy and Police Officer Greg Walz began the investigation and, working with bank security and detectives from the New York City Police Department, were able to identify 58-year-old Mark Gibbons of West 143rd Street in Manhattan as the individual who entered the bank and presented a fraudulent personal check in the name of the Pound Ridge victim.

Based on the bank video and images as well as information gathered working with the Loss Division of Wells Fargo Bank and NYPD detectives, Pound Ridge Police obtained a warrant for the arrest of Mark Gibbons on Friday, Oct. 24.

Members of the Pound Ridge Police Department along with detectives from the 34th precinct met and went to Gibbons' home on Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 1.

Gibbons was taken into custody without incident at his home in Manhattan. He was transported to Pound Ridge Police Headquarters where he was processed.

He was arraigned before Pound Ridge Justice Regina Kelly and remanded to the Westchester County Correctional Facility on $10,00 bail with a return date of Nov. 13.

Police are continuing the investigation as a second individual is being sought in connection with this investigation. In addition, more charges are anticipated to be filed in this case.
