More than a dozen people came out Sunday night to help restaurant owner Kurt Knox clean up the mess.
“We were open for lunch the next day,” Knox said.
An elderly driver apparently stepped on the gas pedal instead of the brake and drove onto the sidewalk, taking out a bench, light, and Squire’s front window.
Four customers who were sitting at a table right by the window were shaken up, but not hurt, Knox said. Employees and the driver were uninjured as well, he added.
“They didn’t have a scratch; it was a miracle,” he added.
Squire’s is located in a small strip mall off North State Road.
It was recently nominated for the Daily Voice’s DVlicious best burger contest.
The Briarcliff Fire Company, Ossining Volunteer Ambulance Corps, and Briarcliff Manor Building department had responded to the scene around 8 p.m. Sunday..
Knox said he was overwhelmed by the show of support from the community after the mishap.
“We had to have 30 or 40 people stop by Monday morning to see how we were doing,” he said.
“By God’s grace, we’re doing fine.”
