A brush fire broke out at the Kensico Reservoir peninsula on Monday afternoon, prompting a heavy response from first responders as temperatures topped 90 degrees in the Hudson Valley.

First responders were dispatched to the area shortly before 3:45 p.m. on Monday afternoon, just off of Route 120 in Armonk. Local residents reported seeing police cars, fire trucks and helicopters in the area, battling the brush fire.

Officials said the fire reached a span of approximately 30 feet by 30 feet. The helicopter made several water dumps on the blaze, and fire crews from North Castle, Thornwood and Armonk reached the fire by boat. The scene was cleared before 8 p.m. The cause of the brush fire remains under investigation. No injuries were reported.

Fire officials in Armonk said that “due to the difficulty in locating the fire, it was believed that the fire was in Thornwood. Westchester County Police Department was called to assist with water drops to help extinguish the fire.”
