Carmel Man Punched, Choked Girlfriend, Sheriff's Office Says

CARMEL, N.Y. -- A Carmel man was arrested on misdemeanor and violation charges following a domestic dispute on Sunday, Jan. 31, the Putnam County Sheriff's Department said.

Emile D. Latuheru, 53, allegedly choked, punched and pulled his girlfriend's hair during a dispute, police said. 

Deputy Sheriff Kevin Radovich responded to a report of a physical dispute on Fowler Avenue and determined that Latuheru was in possession of cocaine and marijuana, authorities said. 

Latuheru was charged with criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, third-degree assault and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, all misdemeanors, and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation, authorities said.

He faces up to a year in jail if found guilty of the misdemeanor charges and a fine of up to $1,000 for each charge, authorities said.
