The man who was killed Tuesday night in a crash on I-287 has been identified.

Investigation at the scene revealed the driver of a box truck, John P. Riofrio, 48, of New York City, was traveling eastbound on I-287 when he collided with another vehicle at around 7:33 p.m. between Exits 9A and 10 in Harrison on the eastbound side, state police said.

After the collision, Riofrio then lost control of his truck and traveled off the roadway over the southern shoulder and through the guide rail, according to police.

The vehicle then overturned and came to rest in a small stream. Riofrio was located deceased at the scene by emergency personnel, according to police.

The two passengers in the box truck were William N. Feliciano, 24, of New York City, who was treated at the scene for minor injuries, and Salvador Salazar, 29, of Astoria in Queens, who was transported to Westchester Medical for treatment of minor injuries, police said.

The operator of the other vehicle was not injured.

Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU), Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit (CVEU) and DEC all assisted on the scene.
