ID Released For Victim Of Fatal July 4th Stabbing

The victim of a fatal stabbing that occurred just before 2 a.m. on Wednesday, July 4 in the City of Poughkeepsie has been identified.

Maurice Black, 25, a Poughkeepsie resident, was stabbed once in the chest at 6 Hoffman Ave., police said. He was transported to MidHudson Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

A suspect, 30-year-old Michael R. Baker of Poughkeepsie, was taken into custody at the scene. He was charged with second-degree murder and is being held at the Dutchess County Jail.

A suspect is in custody after a 25-year-old man was fatally stabbed in an overnight incident in Poughkeepsie, police said.

Police received a 911 call reporting the stabbing at 6 Hoffman Ave. at about 1:48 a.m. Wednesday, said Detective Lt. Matt Clark of the Poughkeepsie PD.

Responding officers found the city resident stabbed once in the chest. The victim was transported to MidHudson Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later, Clark said.

Taken into custody at the scene was 30-year-old Michael R. Baker, also a city resident, police said.

Baker was charged with murder in the second degree and is being held pending his arraignment.

An autopsy is being conducted by the Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The name of the victim will be released after next of kin are notified.
