The crash was discovered around 12:20 a.m. Jan. 18, when Deputy Francis McDonough responded to the area of 186 Starr Ridge Road, in the Town of Southeast, on a report of a one-car motor vehicle crash, the Sheriff's Office said.

Once on the scene, McDonough found a 2013 Honda Civic crashed into a stone wall at the intersection of Starr Ridge Road and Cobb Road. The Deputy observed that the airbags inside the vehicle had been deployed but the driver was not in the car.

A witness, who lived across the street from the accident scene, told the deputy that the male driver, Cody Holliday, 26, who reeked of an alcoholic beverage, fled the scene on foot after the witness informed him that she had called an ambulance, the sheriff's office said.

The witness gave a physical description of the driver to the deputy and which way he had fled.

Sgt. Timothy Keith of the Putnam County K-9 unit, who was on patrol with K-9 Sentinel, responded to the scene and was able to track down Holliday, in the area of 214 Starr Ridge Road.

Holliday was charged with DWI and leaving the scene of a crash.
