Man Charged With Having Stolen Handguns In I-84 Stop

FISHKILL, N.Y. -- A Connecticut man is facing several charges after police said they found three loaded handguns – two of them reportedly stolen – in his car after a traffic stop in Fishkill.

According to state police, 37-year-old Robert Bishop of New Britain, was pulled over on I-84 on Friday because he was speeding.

The arresting officer determined that Bishop was intoxicated, police said.

A search of Bishop’s Hyundai Sonata turned up three weapons, two of which had been reported as stolen in North Carolina, police said.

Bishop was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony; fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a felony; and driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor.

He was arraigned in City of Beacon Justice Court and held at Dutchess County Jail on $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond.

Bishop is to appear in the Fishkill Justice Court at an unspecified date and time.
