YORKTOWN, N. Y. -- Alfredo Rolando Prieto, convicted of slaying Yorktown's Rachael Raver and and her boyfriend in 1988, was executed by lethal injection Thursday night at the Greensville Correctional Center in Jarratt, Va., according to reports.
Prieto was convicted of three murders in Virginia and California, and is linked by DNA and ballistics to six more. Attorneys for Prieto tried to delay the execution but a judge late Thursday denied the request, The Washington Post said.
Deidre Raver of Yorktown, sister of victim Rachael Raver, watched the execution, and said it ends a 26-year ordeal for her family. Prieto, 49, an El Salvadore native, was pronounced dead at 9:17 p.m., The Washington Post reported.
