A patrol vehicle from the Stormville barracks located a vehicle fire in a wooded area on the right shoulder of the Taconic State Parkway in the vicinity of Route 301 on Nov. 1, 2014.  The trooper stopped and assisted two Good Samaritans who were already attempting to extricate the driver from the vehicle, according to police.   The driver, identified as John Reno, 53 years old, of Oakland Park, Fla., was successfully removed from the 2008 Toyota and transported to Westchester County Medical Center by Putnam Valley Volunteer Ambulance. As a result of the crash, Reno had suffered severe burns to his lower extremities.

Subsequent investigation revealed that Reno unlawfully possessed a loaded Colt handgun.  Reno was not licensed to carry a concealed handgun in New York or Florida, his home state, due to being a convicted Felon, said police.   Following Reno’s release from a medical treatment facility, he was arraigned before the Town of Putnam Valley Court.  The Honorable Town Judge DiCarlo remanded Reno to the Putnam County Jail without bail.  He is scheduled to reappear in Putnam Valley Court on March 2, 2015 at 2 p.m, stated police.
