A Westchester County police officer was injured Wednesday night when a man who was high on drugs and driving a stolen pickup truck crashed into his marked patrol vehicle in White Plains.
Officer Adrian Camacho was stopped at a red light on Central Avenue at the Bronx River Parkway when a 2014 Ford F-350 pickup truck driven by 28-year-old Christian Guzman of New London, Conn., slammed into the rear of his patrol car, Westchester County police spokesman Kieran O'Leary said. Though injured, Camacho detained Guzman until additional officers arrived at the scene, O'Leary said.
Camacho was transported by ambulance to White Plains Hospital Center, where he was treated and released for neck and back injuries.
Guzman failed field sobriety tests, and a computer check revealed that the pickup had been stolen earlier in the day in New London, Conn., O'Leary said.
Guzman was charged with criminal possession of stolen property and driving while ability impaired by drugs, both felonies. He will be arraigned Thursday afternoon in White Plains City Court.
County police recovered the victim’s wallet, $548 in cash, an iPhone and other personal property belonging to the victim from inside the stolen vehicle, according to O'Leary.
