The heavy fire was extinguished in about one hour, but State Street remains closed between William and South Malcolm streets to traffic and pedestrians.
"Upon arrival had a heavy fire load coming through the roof," said Ossining First Asst. Fire Chief Matthew Scarduzio. "The whole attic was fully involved. The fire started burning down, down into the walls."
Flames were coming out of the top corner of the house when firefighters arrived at around 12:30 p.m. Within five minutes, Scarduzio said the roof partially collapsed.
Firefighters from Briarcliff Manor and Millwood assisted in battling the blaze, and are in the process of overhauling the home. Scarduzio said that could take hours.
There were no injuries to firefighters and no damage to the adjacent homes on either side of the structure.
