Police Cancel Amber Alert Issued For Child In Cortlandt

UPDATE: Police canceled the alert at 8:28 p.m. Friday. No further information was available. 

CORTLANDT, N.Y. - New York State Police issued an Amber Alert Friday night for a child who was apparently abducted near Cortlandt.

Police described the suspect as "distraught" and added that she "has threatened to harm the child and herself."

 Police issued the alert at about 6:33 p.m.

The child, Avanta Perez, is a Hispanic male, approximately 5 years old with short, brown hair and brown eyes, police said. He is approximately 3 feet 8 inches tall and weighs about 50 pounds. Avanta was last seen wearing khaki pants and an aqua shirt.

Police said they believe Avanta was taken by Amanda Perez, who they described as a Hispanic female, approximately 23 years old with long, brown hair and brown eyes. She is approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighs about 135 pounds. Police said she was last seen wearing black pants, red flowered shirt and a black sweater.

Police are looking for a gray, 4-door sedan Honda Civic with NY license plate number DRT8361.

The car was last seen traveling on Route 9, possibly heading for the Bear Mountain area, police said.
