WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Westchester County Police have identified the victim who died early Wednesday when his car left the Saw Mill River Parkway at the Ardsley exit ramp, crashed through a railing and plunged about 30 feet to the ground below.

The victim is 21-year-old Christopher Seguinot of 21 Old Lake St. in West Harrison, police said in a press conference early Wednesday afternoon. The incident occurred at about 12:10 a.m. Wednesday.

A county police officer was patrolling the Saw Mill Parkway in Hastings-on-Hudson when he saw several cars slowing on the parkway's northbound side, in an apparent sign that a drag race was about to start, according to the police report by Westchester County Police Commissioner George Longworth.

The officer reported that a race began and that he lost track of the cars described as a Camaro and a Dodge Challenger, according to Longworth's statement. The officer followed the cars to Exit 17 in Ardsley where another motorist flagged him down and told him a car had crashed.

According to police reports, the Camaro crashed through an 18-inch-high concrete barrier with metal guardrails and hit a tree before falling on its top on a grassy section near the northbound lanes of the Saw Mill River Parkway. Branches from the tree were lodged in the car from the tree and a sign directing traffic to nearby Dobbs Ferry Hospital Hospital was stuck in the ground.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene and the car was removed at about 9:30 a.m. after an investigation.

The northbound Saw Mill River Parkway was closed for more than eight hours and the Ashford Avenue Bridge for 10 hours before reopening at 10:25 a.m.

An 18-foot section of the guard rail was dislodged and repairs were being made Wednesday afternoon.
