A report of illegal drug sales in a Poughkeepsie neighborhood led to one of the largest cocaine busts in the city's history on Monday, said City of Poughkeepsie Police.

The bust took place when members of the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department Neighborhood Recovery Unit and The Emergency Services Unit executed a search warrant at 64 Lent St., said Sgt. Terrence Beam.

As a result of the search, officers recovered 40.9 ounces (1.16 Kilograms) of cocaine, two loaded .45 caliber handguns, three vehicles, in excess of $20,000 cash, and numerous articles used in the distribution of drugs, Beam said.

Arrested during the search was Jarmond T. Pittman, 41, of Poughkeepsie. He was charged with one count of felony criminal possession of a controlled substance; two counts of felony possession of a weapon and one count felony criminal possession of a weapon.

Pittman was arraigned in The City of Poughkeepsie Criminal Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail without bail.

Captain Richard Wilson said the officers of the unit are focused on anti-crime, crime prevention and quality of life issues across the city.

"Today, through hard work and perseverance, the Neighborhood Recovery Unit has made one of the largest seizures of cocaine in the history of the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department," Wilson said. "The arrest and seizure, in this case, should not only temporarily disrupt the flow of cocaine to our streets, but help restore calm and stability to the immediate area. Finally, two handguns, in the hands of a convicted felon, will not be involved in the furtherance of violence in our city.”

Community members with information regarding drug dealing or suspicious activity in their neighborhood are encouraged to contact the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department Neighborhood Recovery Unit at 845-451-4060.
