Putnam Sheriff Searches For Man Wanted On Rape Charges

PUTNAM, N.Y. -- A man wanted for questioning on rape charges is at large and police are asking for the public's help, the Putnam County Sheriff's Department says.

A Superior Court arrest warrant dating Oct. 30, 2006 alleges Jose M. Tapia, 39, was involved with 1st degree rape, contempt, weapon possession and menacing.

He is described as a male hispanic with black hair and brown eyes, 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing 225 pounds.
