Julio A. Garcia, of Coral Reef Way in Queen, is being held on $50,000 bail at Putnam County Correctional Facility, the sheriff's office said. He's charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon for having a firearm after a felony conviction,  the sheriff's office said.

He was also charged with several vehicle equipment violations, police said. His prior conviction stems from similar felony narcotics charges in 2014 that resulted in a plea deal, according to the sheriff's office.

Police said officers made the stop at around 11:30 p.m. Thursday and discovered the man was not following driving restrictions of his license that followed a DWI conviction from earlier this year, police said. Officers later found 15 bags of cocaine and one plastic bag of MDMA, or ecstasy, the sheriff's office said.

Police also found a loaded .380 caliber semi-automatic pistol within the vehicle, police said. He was arraigned before Town Justice Thomas Jacobellis of the Carmel Town Justice Court, according to the sheriff's office.
