Somers Teen Charged With Arson, Burglary Of North Salem Home

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. - A Somers teenager is facing felony charges after state police said he broke into a North Salem home and allegedly attempted to set the house on fire using gasoline.

State Police announced Friday that Jeremiah Healy, 17, has been arrested and charged with felony counts of arson, burglary and criminal mischief after they said he was caught breaking in through a kitchen window and causing fire damage in the home.

Police said they were dispatched to a Fox Den Lane home in North Salem on Dec. 10 after a homeowner spotted an unfamiliar vehicle pulling out of the driveway. Upon further investigation, police said they found the broken kitchen window, and fire damage to the interior.

With an assist from the Westchester County Fire Cause and Origin Team, police said they were able to determine that a “flammable accelerant was spread in several areas of the home." Based on a vague description of the motorist leaving the scene, police said they were able to track down Healy and determined he deliberately set the house on fire with gasoline.

It is not believed that Healy and the homeowner were acquainted. No motive for the incident has been released.

Healy was arraigned in North Salem Court and released on $2,000 bail. He is due back in court on Monday, Jan. 9.
