South Salem Man Charged With Assault, Robbery After Beating Victim

SOUTH SALEM, N.Y. -- A South Salem man was charged with robbery and assault after allegedly beating a man and stealing his wallet at the Oak Ridge Commons Condominium Complex on Route 123 on Monday night, according to New York State Police.

The 27-year-old victim was reportedly being dropped off at his home by a friend when Wyatt Gilchrist, 21, allegedly pulled the victim from the vehicle and began punching him. Gilchrist then allegedly removed the victim's leather belt and continued to assault him, police said. 

Gilchrist allegedly removed the victim's wallet before fleeing the scene. After being identified by the victim, Gilchrist was arrested and charged with second-degree robbery and second-degree assault. He was remanded to Westchester County Jail in lieu of  $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond, police said. 

The victim was taken to Norwalk Hospital in Connecticut for treatment of lacerations and contusions to his head and face, police said.
