The people, who call themselves "The Montrose 9" have been protesting the Spectra Energy AIM pipeline and blocked access to the construction yard in November They are arguing their activity was justified because of the potential harm the pipeline will cause. Oppents are also concerned about the pipeline's proximity to Indian Point.
Last week, six people were arrested in Peekskill Monday morning after erecting a 20-foot tripod in an attempt to block construction of the Spectra pipeline.
The pipeline was approved by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission in March 2015. An appeal filed by the Town of Cortlandt in January was denied.
Spectra has said in statements that the pipeline will be constructed, operated and maintained to meet or exceed federal safety standards and regulations.
The pipeline will carry gas from Pennsylvania to New England. It runs through Stony Point, under the Hudson, and through parts of Westchester, including Cortlandt.
