YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N. Y. -- A 17-year-old Hamden, Conn., teen is facing a felony charge after Yorktown police connected him to an online effort to get money from a Yorktown juvenile under the threat of orchestrating a large-scale police response to a hoax call at the juvenile's home, police said.

Usama Naseer is charged with fourth-degree grand larceny for incidents that occurred in 2014 and 2015, police said. He is free after posting $2,500 bail, and due back in Yorktown Justice Court at 6 p.m. May 12, police said.

The investigation started with a report of a shooting taking place on Feb. 14, 2015, on Fair Hills Drive in Ossining. Officers from Ossining, Yorktown and New York City responded to the address, which was actually in Yorktown, then police determined it was a hoax. police said.

Detectives learned that the suspect made contact with a Yorktown juvenile over the Internet in 2014 and 2015, and threatened "swatting" if the juvenile didn't send him money, police said. The hoax call was an effort to get money from the juvenile, police said.

Yorktown police were assisted by Ossining police, Hamden police and the Westchester County District Attorney's office, police said.
