Veronica Montalvo, 42, of Yonkers was stopped by state police after they spotted her flying down the interstate. A blood test following the stop, showed she was driving with a blood alcohol limit over twice the legal limit at 0.18 percent, police said.
Montalvo was charged with driving while intoxicated with a child, endangering the welfare of a child, and speeding.
She was arraigned before the Town of South Nyack Court and released on her own recognizance. Her child was turned over to a responsible party.
Leandra's Law is named after 11-year-old Leandra Rosado, who was killed on the Henry Hudson Parkway in 2009 while traveling in a van that flipped when the driver, a family friend, was under the influence of alcohol.
