Woman Killed In Somers Crash Suffered 'Significant Trauma,' Police Say

SOMERS, N.Y. -- New York State Police announced that the woman killed in a two-vehicle accident Friday night in Somers was a 78-year-old Norwalk, Conn., resident.

The collision, which was at the intersection of Route 35 and Route 100, happened at around 7:10 p.m., state police said. The two vehicles involved were a 2008 Volvo that was driven by a 16-year-old person from Somers and a 2012 Honda that was driven by a 65-year-old Connecticut resident, according to police.

The Norwalk woman was a passenger in the Honda, according to police, and "sustained significant trauma from the impact."

State Police said that life-saving measures were taken at the site, and that the woman died after she was transported to Mount Kisco's Northern Westchester Hospital.

Police added that the other people involved were taken to Westchester Medical Center and did not have life-threatening injuries. 

"There were no signs or indications that alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash," police stated.

Police said the cause is under investigation.

The Friday night collision at the intersection of Route 100 and Route 35 resulted in traffic being limited and detoured.

Mutual aid included Somers Police, according to Mackey, with ambulances from North Salem and Yorktown covers Somers ambulance calls.
