David Grolz, 40, was arraigned on assault and menacing charges last week, following an incident on the 3700 block of Compound Road in Yorktown where he allegedly held his victim hostage for nearly two hours. A shotgun was later recovered by police.
According to a News12 report, in court, Grolz’s lawyer said that he was drunk when he assaulted a man at his house.
Police were dispatched to Grolz’s home to investigate reports of an assault which were “substantiated,” according to Yorktown Police Lt. Timothy Geitner said last week. The complaint led to a heavy police presence in the area, which forced a temporary partial closure of Route 202. A hostage negotiator eventually intervened and Grolz turned himself over to police without further incident.
No gunshots were fired by Grolz or police during the standoff. Bail was set at $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond. An order of protection was also issued for both the victim and a witness to the incident.
Grolz is due back in Yorktown Justice Court on Tuesday, where he will face the assault and weapons charges.
