Yorktown Man, 79, Charged With Punching Woman

YORKTOWN, N.Y. – A 79-year-old Yorktown man was arrested Thursday night for allegedly punching a woman in the face, police said.

Police responded to a Gomer Street house Wednesday when a female resident reported a past domestic incident. They said the woman had swelling and bruising to her right eye.

Dieter Giewat turned himself in the next day, according to police, and was charged with assault in the third-degree, a misdemeanor. He was released without bail and is scheduled to return to court on Sept. 25.

In other blotter news:

  • Vincent Alfano, 19, of Yorktown, was charged with two counts of making graffiti, a misdemeanor, for allegedly spray painting electrical boxes and the outside of a Yorktown building. An officer on routine patrol noticed that electrical boxes on Hill Boulevard had been defaced. An investigation pointed to Alfano as the suspect in the painting of the boxes and the City Tire building on East Main Street, police said. Alfano surrendered at police headquarters Thursday afternoon.
  • A 67-year-old Yorktown woman was given a violation on Sept. 15 after her dog allegedly bit a postal worker trying to deliver a package to her house, police said. The case was turned over the department’s Animal Control Officer, who gave the woman a summons for allegedly failing to license her dog.
  • Ellen Cottrell, 51, of Cortlandt Manor, was charged Tuesday with petty larceny for allegedly shoplifting from Sears in the Jefferson Valley Mall, police said. Cottrell was taken into custody for allegedly attempting to leave the store without paying for clothing and a tote bag valued at $722.95. She was processed on the misdemeanor charge and released without bail.
