YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- Yorktown police have charged a 51-year-old resident of Mohegan Lake with driving without a valid license, police said.

The arrest came about when an officer assigned to investigate a disabled vehicle blocking a lane at the intersection of Route 6 and Lee Boulevard conducted a routine check of the operator’s driver’s license on Friday, about 1:29 p.m., according to police.

The driver, identified as John Roche, had allegedly operated the vehicle while his New York state driver’s license was suspended, police said.

The suspect was taken into custody and processed at Police Headquarters; he has been charged with aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree, an unclassified misdemeanor, according to police.

The defendant was released on his own recognizance, police said.

He is scheduled to appear in Yorktown Justice Court on Thursday, Dec. 8, according to police.
