reports the arrest of a Yorktown man on Driving While Intoxicated and drug charges.
While on patrol at 1:31 a.m. Sunday, Deputy Sheriff Jonathan Irwin observed a vehicle being operated in traffic on Route 6 in Mahopac with sparks emanating from a damaged front wheel, the sheriff's office said.
Irwin stopped the vehicle and determined that the driver, identified as Peter Sjulander of Strang Boulevard in Yorktown was intoxicated, the sheriff's office said.
Sjulander was charged him with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, after he failed a series of standardized field sobriety tests, the sheriff's office said.
During the arrest, the deputy determined that Sjulander was in possession of quantities of cocaine and oxycodone. Sjulander was additionally charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a misdemeanor. Sjulander was processed at the Putnam County Correctional Facility and held pending arraignment.
If found guilty of the misdemeanor charges, Sjulander could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.00 for each charge.
