The boy, whose name is being withheld, was arrested after staff members at Ben Franklin Elementary School reported a student in possession of a possible BB gun, according to Yorktown police.
Officers investigated and discovered that the youth had an airsoft gun while on school grounds, according to Yorktown police.
The youth was charged with juvenile delinquency, with an underlying charge of unlawful possession of weapons by persons under 16, Yorktown police report.
The boy was issued a juvenile appearance ticket directing him to appear at the Department of Probation for counseling on Nov. 11, officials report.
The youth was then released on his own recognizance to the custody of a parent, according to Yorktown police.
