The caller informs the victims that he needs to collect money in order to settle an unpaid tax return for a particular year. He also informs victims that they have a certain amount of hours to settle the due payment or police will be called to make an arrest. Intended victims are told to purchase re-load prepaid cards in the amount due and to call back the representative with the card and pin numbers to settle the debt.
Police warns that the call is fraud, and not to engage in conversation. Police are asking residents to report calls to local police departments. The IRS does not call by phone or engage in monetary transcations for debt owed to them.
