YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- A registered sex offender from Yorktown was sentenced to an additional eight years in prison for a third-degree criminal sex act, according to the Putnam County district attorney's office.

Yorktown resident Jonathan DeLaura was sentenced to an additional 8 years in prison for third-degree criminal sex acts.

Jonathan DeLaura, 39, was found in possession of an iPod that contained hundreds of images of child pornography.

DeLaura, who has now left a trail of victims in three states, would target some of his victims by posing as a young female online, and then use blackmail and emotional manipulation to force them to submit to his demands, the DA's office said.

DeLaura's most recent infractions started just days after he was released from prison in April 2011.

In an effort to maximize DeLaura’s exposure to prison, Putnam’s law enforcement agencies joined forces with the United States Attorney’s Office to secure indictments and convictions on Federal child pornography charges.  He was sentenced last month to 35 years in Federal Prison on those charges.

“Crimes against children are especially heinous, and Jonathan DeLaura is a textbook example of how sex offenders operate,” Putnam County District Attorney Adam Levy said in a statement. “By working closely with our law enforcement partners, we were able to identify additional victims, gather information about additional crimes, and ultimately secure a stronger sentence that will keep this man behind bars and away from children for a very long time. Internet and child safety continue to be a top priority in Putnam County.”
