YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. -- Yorktown police have arrested a 16-year-old Yorktown resident for stealing cough syrup from a local pharmacy.

An officer responded to a report that an shoplifting suspect had been detained at the Taconic Pharmacy on Saturday, March 5, at approximately 11:30 a.m., according to police.

After an investigation, the officer arrested the suspect, whose name is being withheld due to his eligibility for youthful offender status, for allegedly concealing two bottles of cough syrup in his jacket and leaving the store without paying for them, officials report.

The defendant was transported to Police Headquarters for processing; he was charged with petty larceny, a class A misdemeanor, police report.

The teen was released on his own recognizance to his parents, police report.

He is scheduled to appear in Yorktown Justice Court for arraignment on Thursday, April 7, according to officials.
