Authorities went to Edgewater Street around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday to investigate a report of suspicious activity, police said.
Police said they arrested a 16-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl, whose names are being withheld because both are eligible for youthful offender status.
The girl was found in possession of marijuana, a switchblade knife and the sedative zolpidem, police said. Police said she faces charges of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a Class A misdemeanor; unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation; and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor.
The boy also had marijuana in his possession, police said. He was charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor, police said.
Both teens were taken to police headquarters, where they were issued appearance tickets for Oct. 1 and released to their parents’ custody, police said.
