Assemblyman Katz Criticizes Regents Appointments

YORKTOWN, N.Y. – Assemblyman Steve Katz, R,C-Yorktown, is criticizing the current process of appointing state Board of Regents, stating the elections are a way for the Assembly majority to continue forcing Common Core and failed education initiatives on the people of New York.

"The Regent appointed to my region is from an area that is specifically friendly to the Assembly majority's policies," said Katz. "This is another political game by the majority. It's all a show. They bring us all together so they can flaunt their political power. What we need to have are reforms put in place to balance the power between the two branches when it comes to Regents selections. Let's bring all four legislative leaders together and pick a Regent actually representative of our community rather than perpetuate a failed education ideology."

The state Legislature elected seven people March 10 to the Board of Regents, including four new members.
