GOP To Honor Three At 'Spirit Of Yorktown' Awards Ceremony

YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- The Yorktown Republican Town Committee is honoring three community leaders who it says embody the "Spirit of Yorktown."

The Thursday event will be at Piatto Grill, 90 Triangle Center, Yorktown Heights. The awards dinner, which is from 6-8:30 p.m., features guest speaker Mark Dillon, a former Yorktown resident whose new book, "The Montana Vigilantes," debuts in September. Tickets to the event range from $60 to $250.

Being honored at the event are Anthony Grasso, winner of the John Hand Award, Douglas Colety, recipient of the Spirit of Yorktown Award and former Assemblyman Bob Castelli, who is being recognized as Public Servant of the Year.

A Paul Harris Medal recipient, former Yorktown Town Councilman, longtime district leader and former Chairman with the Yorktown Republican Town Committee, Grasso is a community volunteer, member of the building and grounds committee of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church and a member of the Yorktown Elks and Yorktown Knights of Columbus. He was appointed to the board of the Foundation Hudson of Valley Hospital Center in 2012. Grasso is also a board member of Circolo da Vinci, the Yorktown Rotary Club and Yorktown Chamber of Commerce. Prior to retiring, he worked with the Lafkin Co. and was a co-founder and vice president of Metro Milorganite Inc.

Castelli is a decorated Vietnam War veteran who, after a distinguished 21 year career in the New York State Police, went on to receive his graduate degree in public administration from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. For the past 16 years, as a college professor, he has used his experience to help shape the future leaders of our state. As a small businessman, he operates a security consulting business where he provides advice and commentary to television and print media on criminal justice and homeland security matters. He is a former Lewisboro Town Councilman and also represented the 89th District in the state Assembly for two terms. Notably, he passed the first statewide law proposed by an Assembly Republican since 2007, a veterans protection measure.

Colety was elected the 14th Chairman of the Westchester Republican County Committee in 2007. His biggest accomplishments as chairman include Rob Astorino's victory as Westchester County executive in 2009, the special election victory and subsequent re-election of Assemblyman Bob Castelli in 2010 and the breaking of the Democratic majority on the County Board of Legislators in 2011. Professionally, Colety is  the Republican commissioner of the Westchester County Board of Elections.
